Canada Post Seizing Beer

Josh -

You were complaining either here or on Ratebeer that you just got screwed by Canada post again. From what I read of the regulations, isn't it possible to get people to ship from the States to Esprit or something for you? I quote:

"Individuals may not send intoxicating beverages in the mail. Intoxicating beverages (e.g. liquor, wine and beer) are non-mailable unless:
...
• they are mailed from outside of Canada and are addressed to a Provincial Liquor Board or Commission, a manufacturer or distributor of such beverages"

This is very interesting. There's what sounds to be an awesome online Belgian beer ordering site (Beermania). I just assumed it was useless to me because of the Canadian shipping regulations

If there is a legit way through one of the consignment places, I would LOVE to hear about it.

I'll agree that Beermania has a great selection but the prices are retail and you would still have to pay all of the Canadian duties, taxes and LCBO mark-ups. Even if I were to bring in some of these beers the prices would be outrageous...for example, I offer Chimay Red in Consignment at $3.40 per bottle. From Beermania it would end up costing you about $5.10...and that's one of the less expensive offerings. It is a fact that consumers cannot order alcoholic beverages from out of the country (in fact, you cannot order them from out of province) and that only liquor boards and licensed agents can.

I looked into it once, and although it doesn't cost much ($30), the kicker is that you need to have one brewery/winery to represent in order to get your license (was I correct in this?)

I think, if I may say so, Peter and I (... and maybe a few others ...) serve you guys - and girls - very well.

Working within the confines of the AGCO/LCBO is a complex affair and irrespective of whether you like it or not it is the way it is and ... the way it is ... buying anything at "retail" outside the Province is, without a doubt, not economic and --- depending on how you transport it --- possibly not even legal.
