Do you prefer to:
A. Swirl as you go to evenly mix your daily vitamin shot with your ale

OR

B. Carefully decant your refermented ale, leaving as few precious drops of nectar in the bottom of the bottle as is necessary to suspend the remaining sediment for post drink enjoyment

I'm all for swirling most belgian ales since the deposit tends to concentrate the spices and as is right for the style German wheat beers as well.

In pretty much all other styles, the yeast deposit should be left at the bottom of the bottle.

Gotta swirl my Schneider Weisse! It makes all the difference in the world.

Long live the Hefe Weizen.

Others, some yes, some no.

I sit on the fence and often drink the first half of the bottle decanted, and then swirl in the dregs somewhere during the second half of the bottle. It was an especially rewarding strategy for the fruit beers in the Éphémère collection. ("Mmmmmm, peachy.")

From personal experience however I suggest that you not swirl in the 24 hours leading up to a boat trip or confined car journey.

In Munich, I once requested a glass of hefe weizen. Without asking, the barman made a great flourish with the bottle and held it upside down over the glass, thoroughly mixing the lees in with the liquid. He then handed me the half full bottle and a very foamy half-glass of beer. Interesting.
