by the end of the week you'll be able to sip this elusive elixir at a handful of Toronto establishments including the Esplanade Biermarkt and Smokeless Joes...first time in Ontario! This stuff regularly retails in the U.S. for anywhere from USD6.00-8.00 and my guess is that you'll be able to enjoy it in these bars for no more than you'd pay at Premier whereas our U.S. friends are paying twice that much in bars. Our first shipment of this great Trappiste is incredibly oversubscribed but we've got another on the way which we hope to be able to offer to the public. We're keeping a few cases on hold and hope to pour them at the Capital City Beer Fest in Ottawa later this month.

I had some of this at Joe's on Saturday. It's not listed on the menu... but it was offered to me when I asked for Rochefort 8.

Good stuff. The price (13$) is quite reasonable if you think about it in terms of wine - how much would the world's third rated wine cost you?

We have another shipment coming in early August and we hope to be able to offer some to consumers instead of strictly to bars...we will, however, be pouring it at Toronto's Festival of Beer along with a number of other interesting offerings so those of you who think the fest is just an excuse for Rickards to introduce another colour (I hear that Rickards Plaid is in the works) might find it worthwhile to come down. I know that I am prejudiced because I sell the stuff but until I tasted Rochefort 10 at the Ottawa fest for the first time in my life, I would have told you that Westmalle Tripel was the greatest beer in the world....that category has now expanded...Westmalle Tripel is the greatest blond/amber beer in the world and Rochefort 10 is, without a doubt, the greatest dark beer in the world...absolutely, mindbogglingly superb elixir...

Rochefort 10 is the only perfect 5 in my ratings arsenal.

Joe.

Just got back from California where I saw Rochefort 10 retailing for USD7.50 or about CAD10.50 as compared to our retail of CAD4.60. This sort of pricing difference was pretty much par for the course...man, I'm not charging anywhere near enough for our Consignment beers!

Yes you are, Peter .

Still it comes down to this: I have to buy 24. Which means my I have to pony up $110.40 rather than $10.50 to try this beer. Now I have tried it and it is excellent (put me down for case btw) but I'm not willing to risk that much money on something untried.

This is an old point I know.

Cheers, Joe.

P.S. Sounds like you're having fun in Cali.

At $4.50 per bottle, Rochefort 10 is a steal. Its easily (IMHO) the finest Trappist Ale around at any price. The Rochefort 8 is more approchable due to its lower alcohol and is as interesting in its own way. This brewery is truly under rated and Peter should be congratulated for having them in his portfolio.

Speaking of which, is there any word on consumer availability yet?

As I said in my e-mail (but didn't get a reply, so I wanted to be sure), put me down for a case.

Thanks,

Andrew
