That's the way she goes. Sometimes she goes, sometimes it doesn't. She didn't go. That's the way she goes.
As much as I hate the current system and would love to see beer/wine/spirits sold by private stores, I'd rather continue with the AGCO/LCBO status quo than have Drug Ford as premier.
@markhamwhisky
Agreed, Doug Ford as premier scares me. #bewareofdoug

The last three years have been like that Will Ferrell in Zoolander scene/meme for me. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Voting for Trump was dumb before it happened and it has been dumb ever since. Ford is no different. They are loud, wealthy, incompetent attention-seeking narcissists with shady pasts and nothing of substance to offer other than self promotion, self-enrichment and glory-seeking for its own sake. His brother (RIP) was the more charming of the two.
And yet now Doug Ford is going to coast to power. He could toss a bag of cats into a woodchipper and I still think a minority PC gov't is the best case scenario atm. I work in Sarnia-Lambton atm; the liberal candidate dropped out, but the useless PC incumbent is almost certainly going to win easily, even without the left vote being split.
Vote strategically and restrict this goof to a minority government. Goad your lazy non-voting friends to vote. Elections like this with no decisively good options are decided by TURNOUT.

Doug Ford as Premier doesn't scare me as much as the hydro bills I've received since returning from five years out of the country. She's as dead as the raccoon I saw on the side of the road this morning.

Yes, let's subsidize electricity with public money. It's worked great for Venezuela and gasoline subsidies. Oh, wait, he is proposing that too!
This pandering is squarely aimed at White Trash Nation that consider actually thinking about repercussions as a shameful elite act. It is unfair, however, to put it all at the feet of the PCs. The other two major parties are pandering away too.

Unless there's a proposal to cut the cost of hydro generation, which the conservatives do not have, what's the point?BeerIsGood wrote:Doug Ford as Premier doesn't scare me as much as the hydro bills I've received since returning from five years out of the country. Nobody can really solve the hydro thing. Because it's the result of 30ish years of underinvestment in hydro infrastructure. Part of the reason costs are so high is they're trying to cover the costs of upgrades. Sure that can come out of general revenue instead, but so what? We still pay for it.
Dougie is going to fire the CEO and save a million bucks a year*. Then he's going to hire another CEO and pay her/him <$100K to stay off the sunshine list**.Craig wrote: Unless there's a proposal to cut the cost of hydro generation, which the conservatives do not have, what's the point?
I'm not up on the costs of hydro in other parts of the world but I do know this: what we pay for energy (hydro/gasoline/etc) is among the lowest on the planet ... so low in fact, we waste more energy than most places.
* aka the equivalent of a drop of water in Lake Ontario. Of course, in order to do so its going to cost millions in severance.
** As if you're going to find any competent person to run a $multi-billion operation willing to earn less than the average engineer 3 levels down on the org chart.
@markhamwhisky
... in other words, we haven't paid enough for hydro in the past or present to cover all the costs of production. Its always been subsidized. The only difference between the parties is which one will subsidize it the most and where the offsetting taxes will come from or how much the deficit will increase...Craig wrote:...Because it's the result of 30ish years of underinvestment in hydro infrastructure. the cost of hydro isn't too high, its too low.

Desperation? or a brilliant read of his base/supporters?
never thought I would ever see a "Conservative" Party promise something so interventionist/socialist/anti-free market.

In my experience (working at a liquor store in AB), buck-a-beer tastes so bad that even the case-a-day types would rather splurge on Busch or Boxer or whatever. Lucky Lager was the big seller and even that is barely tolerable. I suppose if he's going after the homeless person demographic then this strategy may be of some help.
