..forgot to add that "braun" must be part of their appliance line of brews which I've never heard of...excuse my French but you probably mean brune and since you can't spell it it also probably explains why you can't find it...

Well, I found that it's not such a bad dark beer, but I wouldn't buy a keg, no.

It can be found at the Bedford Academy (On Prince Arthur and Bedford, in the Annex). They even have the right glassware, if that matters.

jester, I didn't insult you but rather questioned why you would want to find a rather mediocre take on an abbey beer...since I am now an idiot, your tastebuds are in your ass you dipshit.

Hey Rabbit,
Spelling does not appear to be one of the Jester's strong suits. Where in the hell is Ontartio?

Leffe Brune was available at the LCBO for a while last year, either as part of a seasonal release or as a special Christmas offering, I'm not sure which. I remember seeing it on the shelf at the Atrium on Bay location. I don't think it's been made part of their standard list, so unless they bring it back as a special one-off, you'll have to stick with having it at pubs and restaurants.

There must still be a few somewhere in Ontario. Find the product number (you can ask at the store) and then phone the hot line. I don't know it, but it's listed elsewhere on the site. Peter from Esprit has posted it a few times.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Joe

P.S. Way to welcome a new comer guys.

Leffe Brune is an Abbey Dubbel.

A similar style is Belgian Strong Ale.

I've also seen the style referred to as a Dark Belgian Ale.

I haven't been into a LCBO that recently, and I'm not sure what's currently on the shelves. Try one of the Chimay beers.

If you want a brilliant example of a Strong Belgian Ale, get over to Smokeless Joe's or La Brasserie and try the Abbaye des Rocs.

Cheers, Joe.

The only thing similar to Leffe Brune at the LCBO (when I say similar, I mean in style only because Leffe is a pale imitation) is Chimay Premiere which is widely available at LCBO stores. In Consignment we carry Floreffe Double, La Trappe Dubbel, Maredsous 8, La Choulette Ambree which are similar examples from Belgium, France and Holland. Contact us at esprit@primus.ca if you're interested in purchasing any of these.

A colleague of mine loves the brune, and has tried desperately to find it in bottles, including calling the LCBO repeatedly, and even a representative of Oland (the importer).

Anyway, he hasn't had much luck - it seems like they're not bringing many bottles in right now. I would suggest some of the alternatives mentioned, or perhaps Unibroue for some Canadian Belgian-style beers.

Leffe Brune can also be found at that place on the south side of Lakeshore Blvd. E., right on the boardwalk between Woodbine and Leslie Streets. What's it called? BBQ on the Beach/Boardwalk, or something? Went there with JC the Belgian a couple of weeks ago, and we both liked it. JC is particularly authoritative on this issue, so that is a good sign.
