Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!
I'm heading up to Ottawa to catch the folk festival this weekend. I would love to get some beer to bring home that I can't easily buy here. So I plan to go into Hull for a bit to buy some. Does anyone have any suggestions as where to go? Also any suggestions as where to go in Ottawa for a pint after the concert would be appreciated. Thanks much
Try the Manx on Elgin St., The Arrow and The Loon on Banks, at 5th ave, The Black Tomato in the Market, Pub Italia on Preston st., Lt Pooley's on Wellington. If you are willing to take a little jaunt acroos the bridge to Quebec, check out L'Autre Oeuil in Aylmer QC. It's a 20 minute drive west of Hull, but the selection and prices are worth the trip.
With respect to buying beer, it seems to me that the selection at dépanneurs has been on a sharp decline since what I perceive to have been their peak in the early 90's.
Last time I was in Hull, I went to my stand-by dép as well as the SAQ at 705 de la Carrière, near, I think, to the casino.
By LCBO standards, this is a pretty small store with limited selection, but I managed to pick up (Austrian) Samichlaus, Duchesse De Bourgogne, Delirium Tremens (gift pack with glass).
They also had La Terrible and Fringante, as well as others that I now forget. But it certainly was better than any dép I've ever set foot in in the Hull area.
I'd be interested in hearing from others of any other good beer retailers in the Hull area.
