Re: Spending/Drinking More or Less on Beer during Pandemic?

Haha, I was trained by my father-in-law in the art of barbecuing , the food is ready when the 3rd bee r is consumed! Of course beer in those days was only 4.5%, but then one day I brought over a new beer, Bra D'or, 6% abv, it was pretty funny! Yes Collective Arts IPA #14!. That Flying Dog is excell...

Honey, those are perfect grill marks! But why are they on your face?

By CA #14, I assume you mean Collective Arts IPA #14. If so, good buy. It's really good.

Great Lakes Burst

Strange, while it has some bitterness, I can't taste or smell any hops. Strange indeed for a NEPA. Maybe I should go get a COVID test.

Re: Spending/Drinking More or Less on Beer during Pandemic?

Sad thing. I actually don't know! I mostly drink my own homebrew, and I am brewing more often, but I'm also sharing more. I couldn't really tell you if more is going in me or to my friends/family. I'm definitely low on supplies. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I haven't kept proper track of my...

Re: Worst Ontario Craft Breweries

Not Ontario but Parallel 49 is being cancelled right now due to staff treatment by owners and management. Has anyone seen the notourp49 Instagram and their response? Wow, this is sad in so many ways. First of all, what's the point of being a jackass? (if the accusations are true) I mean, running a ...

Re: Flora Hall

That and unlike regular litter there's actually a benefit since many people collect empties as a source of cash. Having spent time at Bellwoods back in the day I can tell you some of those people are pretty much professional collectors. I recall back in the 1980s having a friend who lived right by ...

Re: Flora Hall

I saw this in the media too. The first thing that crossed my mind was, well, now I've heard of Flora Hall.

It is a good idea though. The few brewers left that use bottles instead of cans aside, how much more litter cam this cause than all the other junk food wrappers and coffee cups?

Re: Modern trends

I could definitely see that being the case. Granted even before covid I'd always keep a healthy stock of easy drinking beers on hand, but like you I rarely order them when I go out for drinks- I'm more likely to try something different/more adventurous. There does seem to be a correlation with lock...

Re: Modern trends

I know the light lager trend has been brewing (sorry) for a while, and is part of chasing a session market, including radlers and hard sodas (spritzers?). But I wonder how much is influenced by the closing of bars. I can see people choosing packaged alcohol on the basis of when and where they are go...

Also, Sgt. Major.

Yes, but I'd say these came along in a much later wave.
Scotch Irish was great. I'd love to refresh my memory on their beers to see how they would fit in with my palete today .

Re: earliest craft brewers ON

What a retro discussion! I drank Gritstone sometimes, also Niagara Trapper Lager. Way early on I liked Connor's Best Bitter even more than Gritstone, and Algonquin Country Lager which was hazy and unfiltered, making it seem more natural. Upper Canada was a trainwreck of often good beers that could ...

Re: Pioneer Ontario Breweries

By Northern, are you referring to the company that had breweries in Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and Timmins?? That company had a long, long history, but were not part of the coming of micro-breweries in Ontario. Maybe you mean something else...but I can't think of any other "Norther...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Flying Monekys Psycho Thrill Seeker is a DIPA with coriander and lemon peel. Luckily, the coriander and lemon peel do not overpower the hop taste. I'd have to try this side-by-side with Nickel Brook Metal Head DIPA to tell which I like better, but I think I like thrill seeker a little more. I enjoy...

Re: Grand River Brewing

Yes, good adds. I liked a strong bitter or old ale Niagara did, as I recall, though the name escapes me. Brick's Bock was quite nice for a little while. I thought of Granite, which I immediately loved, but in those days you couldn't get them "to go", so think of it more as a destination. S...
