Re: Flora Hall

That and unlike regular litter there's actually a benefit since many people collect empties as a source of cash. Having spent time at Bellwoods back in the day I can tell you some of those people are pretty much professional collectors. I recall back in the 1980s having a friend who lived right by ...

Re: Flora Hall

I saw this in the media too. The first thing that crossed my mind was, well, now I've heard of Flora Hall.

It is a good idea though. The few brewers left that use bottles instead of cans aside, how much more litter cam this cause than all the other junk food wrappers and coffee cups?

Re: Modern trends

I could definitely see that being the case. Granted even before covid I'd always keep a healthy stock of easy drinking beers on hand, but like you I rarely order them when I go out for drinks- I'm more likely to try something different/more adventurous. There does seem to be a correlation with lock...

Re: Modern trends

I know the light lager trend has been brewing (sorry) for a while, and is part of chasing a session market, including radlers and hard sodas (spritzers?). But I wonder how much is influenced by the closing of bars. I can see people choosing packaged alcohol on the basis of when and where they are go...

Also, Sgt. Major.

Yes, but I'd say these came along in a much later wave.
Scotch Irish was great. I'd love to refresh my memory on their beers to see how they would fit in with my palete today .

Re: earliest craft brewers ON

What a retro discussion! I drank Gritstone sometimes, also Niagara Trapper Lager. Way early on I liked Connor's Best Bitter even more than Gritstone, and Algonquin Country Lager which was hazy and unfiltered, making it seem more natural. Upper Canada was a trainwreck of often good beers that could ...

Re: Pioneer Ontario Breweries

By Northern, are you referring to the company that had breweries in Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and Timmins?? That company had a long, long history, but were not part of the coming of micro-breweries in Ontario. Maybe you mean something else...but I can't think of any other "Norther...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Flying Monekys Psycho Thrill Seeker is a DIPA with coriander and lemon peel. Luckily, the coriander and lemon peel do not overpower the hop taste. I'd have to try this side-by-side with Nickel Brook Metal Head DIPA to tell which I like better, but I think I like thrill seeker a little more. I enjoy...

Re: Grand River Brewing

Yes, good adds. I liked a strong bitter or old ale Niagara did, as I recall, though the name escapes me. Brick's Bock was quite nice for a little while. I thought of Granite, which I immediately loved, but in those days you couldn't get them "to go", so think of it more as a destination. S...

Re: Grand River Brewing

"One of the first craft breweries in Ontario established in 1996" Not sure how far up the list you have to be to be considered "one of the first", but I think this is an exaggeration. Obviously the true pioneers were Wellington, upperCanada, Conners and Hart (I may be forgetting...

Here is a small gesture I discovered. Perfect if you need to keep your family preoccupied while you go enjoy a quiet brew in the corner. :D

Let's find some way to help our friends

This is a partner thread to one I just posited. It’s no secret the hospitality industry is facing an existential crises. I’m guessing (sadly) that every one of our quality beer establishments and favourite social spots are potentially lost to us. A Big Loss. I don’t want to write a eulogy here, but ...

Friends, how are you doing?

As I recall from the roots of Bartowel, there was a time when we congregated here to share insights into where to find great beer and support those in the hospitality industry that were prepared to help us with our weird niche fetish. We have been blessed with so many bars and restaurants that have ...

Re: Collective Arts

Two new collabs from these guys in a week! Found 3 other people to go in on a group buy with and split up the costs so I’ll be able to just commit to one or two of each instead of the whole 4-Pack https://collectiveartsbrewing.com/beers/ultra-soft/ https://collectiveartsbrewing.com/beers/tropical-d...
