Okanagan Extra Pale Ale

Post by Beer Geek »

I’ve heard a few radio commercials this week about how this beer is now available in Ontario. As anyone tried this yet? I know it’s a Sleeman product, so I’m assuming it's not as good as it probably once was. Can anyone confirm?

I had a bottle a couple of months back, and here are my tasting notes:

"Orange-copper with a small white head. Mild aroma of non-descript, slightly fruity malt and a bare hint of hops. Thin, watery body with no flavour off the top and a stale, harsh bitterness to finish. Was this a decent beer before Sleeman took over?"

Rather bland but inoffensive. That seems to be the consensus with the people I know who have had it. We certainly don't need it in Ontario, I think we have enough in the "bland but inoffensive" category already.

It's not worth the cash, I bought a 12, and was disappointed.

The beer store clerk, told me it is trying to compete with Keith's.

Is it available on tap/in singles somewhere or have people been picking up six packs?

It's only available in 12's at the beer store. I have a few left, and dont plan on drinking them anytime soon. We'll see how they hold up. :)

I grabbed a six pack on my way back from Montreal last summer. I found it thin and ordinary. Not that it was horrible, just not something worth buying in future.

Last year it was Maclay's Pale Ale. This year it's Okanagan. I wonder which mediocre regional Sleeman will try to foist on us next year?

I tried some of this beer and I have to say that I liked it. I have been told that it is very popular out in B.C. and Alberta....sorta the Creemore of the west. I haven't been out west in awhile so maybe someone who has can shed some light?
