It's finally listed on the stupid LCBO website! And it's seemingly not available anywhere other than Ottawa, Kingston, Perth and Toronto. Geez, it could be years before it makes its way here! :o

Patience sure is a virtue.

This is something that always panics me. On Thursday I ventured out in a snowstorm, and walked a hell of a ways to the LCBO at Jane and Dundas to pick up the Thomas Hardy's. Of course two days later there are dozens of bottles of it at my local store. My fears are always groundless.

Hey, and if people can't find it locally, I'm sure they'll get By somehow.

Looks like all of the winter release has made it to the shelves with the exception of the Harviestoun Old Engine Oil. Any word on when that one will make an appearance?

Every seasonal LCBO manages to screw up at least one beer. The Harviestoun might be that beer this time.

This is one I was really anticipating having with some Christmas cake.

I suppose in light of past LCBO seasonal releases we should be thankful this one went so smoothly with on time deliveries ....still..POs me the Engine Oil didn't make the cut in time...why couldn't it have been the Corona gift packs 'er sumthin' that didn't make it.

Dear god, please don't let that be the case. Engine Oil is one of the best beers I've ever had!

Semi-related...overheard at the Cooper St. LCBO, a couple of typical college dorks: "Who the hell would buy a beer called 10w30??!" Said with genuine disgust.

Apparently, only wines can have silly, ironic names and still get the shit sold out of them. I believe he was buying Keith's, for the record. I didn't bother notifying them that the "IPA" on the label was just as much of a misnomer...and that its spokesperson is a suspected kiddie-lover.

Well it's the LCBO - being very good at business isn't really their field.

Now, you want a beer tested for trace amounts of hops, they will have that area covered pretty well.

Late arrivals are usually supplier related problems so don't get your knickers in a knot..if the prduct arrives on time it generally makes it's way through the distribution system wihthout a lot of problems. Not to make excuses for the LCBO, but uninformed comments don't help any of us who sell to the LCBO. Post a comment to the agent invovled and ask them whether they or the supplier screwed up before you direct your anger at the LCBOl I've screwed up many times and will admit it....

Appreciate the comment Peter - no not anger, just laughter here - it happens SO often and it ONLY happens with beer, I mean if Vintages did that every time there was a Big Wine Release * wow * the outraged citizens would rally with torches & pitchforks... so I wonder why wine is so much better-handled.?!?! They always get those exact details correct and that's the proper way to do business - #1, you NEVER f--- with your customers' expectations.

Yet the LC have one or more beers go missing from every release & then just go "what?" like it's business-as-usual... a very "work-to-rule" mentality. So that IS kind of amusing you have to admit.

(Matbe not so funny as the beer importer though, eh?!)

We of course don't want to make the LC's attitude anymore 'forget you guys' than it already seems to be... We (?) would just like lots of civilians to read on BarTowel what's going on so we slowwwly increase the public pressure to be treated with the same respect as wine people. We badly need to vaccinate the public against their indifference to this. The odd jab of humorous skepticism here can be healthy and we still DO appreciate this great 90% of a release so far, as you can tell.

Actually, I've seen lots of Vintages wines not get released when they're scheduled to - it seems to happen to me every few releases (and that's only on the wines I'm interested in). My guess is that a couple of wines from each bi-weekly release don't show up when they're supposed to.

Sure, could just be me - but are you talking late-shows or NO-shows? Do they say they are going to release a wine and then dont & just pretend they never heard of it?

I just see these promos for wines in the magazines and web-pages, and I have never NOT found something OR had any lack of knowledgeable support.

I think they usually roll in late. A couple of times I've wanted one that never showed up. Usually I'm not as intent on chasing them down as I would be with beer, so I give up when they don't show up on schedule.

However: With wine, somebody at the store will usually at least know what's going on. The Vintages folks seem to be better trained/more knowledgeable than the run-of-the-mill employees.

Sorry to change the subject, but (in case you haven't noticed), the John By seems to be coming available everywhere now. Heads up.
