"Especially popular in Western Canada, wheat beers are easy to drink with almost zero aftertaste."
Can anyone explain to me why there is such a stigma amongst non-craft/real beer drinkers about after-tastes? Why are they perceived as such a bad thing? Why would anyone claim that a wheat beer doesn't have one? Unless you're drinking liquid nitrogen, which I wouldn't recommend, doesn't every edible substance on the face of the Earth have SOME sort of aftertaste? If you're putting any sort of organic/semi-organic carbon-based material in your mouth and chewing, it's inevitable that there will be bits left in your mouth after the swallow, that have to taste like something. Right?

I was at the Castle one time, when they had the John By on tap. This guy was there, only for a short time, and he had a full pint of the stuff. When he got up to leave and say good-bye to Harold, he mentioned how much he liked the John By, claiming that "there was no after-taste". How unbelievably out of touch with reality and your taste-buds do you have to be to think that John By has no aftertaste?!?!???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Is it all a psychosomatic thing? Like the perception of Guinness being incredibly strong and bitter?

Sorry for the rant, I'm just extremely puzzled by this whole anti-aftertaste affair.

My guess is that when people complain about the "after-taste", they're really complaining about the specific after-taste that crappy macro-lagers have. Maybe if that taste is missing, then they think there's "no after-taste".

detritus has it. Everyone knows what that macro aftertaste is like... ugh! I can't blame people for looking for more and more tasteless stuff after having that first warm Molson's.

Apparently Amber had too much to drink when she wrote this. I can't believe it made it to "print". I guess the editor was under a rock.

The 'totally fun and somewhat random' disxlaimer must've been for bot hthe shows and the beer descriptions. You see these type of lists more often talkign about celebrities and pop-culture. Online article fodder is at an all-time high these days and Sympatico is brimming with it.

I wonder now......what beer should I be drinking during HNIC???
:P
