My first labels

Post by Gedge »

My graphic design skills are amateur at best, but I couldn't help but feel a slight tinge of pride seeing my beers in corked Belgian bottles with custom labels. These are meant to be gifts at an upcoming Christmas party.

I think they look great! Do you have a design template to share?

Thanks Derek.

I would be happy to share. Not sure I would say I have a template, but I have saved the unflattened elements (if that makes sense) in Macromedia Fireworks. I prefer Fireworks to Photoshop, probably because that is the only graphics package I have had any training on (which is minimal).

The picture doesn't really capture it, but the labels are on a nice glossy stock.

Very nice. My standard labeling technique over the years has involved the high-tech solution of masking tape and a jiffy marker.

What do you use for labels? Standard off the shelf avery (etc) labels or something else?

PS: wife and I are looking forward to trying your Black IPA soon.

Nice work.

I love making labels for all my brews. BYO magazine have a label contest every year with some pretty sweet prizes. Always worth entering.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys.

I'm not sure what the labels are printed on. I don't think it's Avery. They were printed at my office print shop. I said I'd be happy with either glossy paper or standard labels and it seems they have a glossy label stock. I'll have a look when I get home and see if there is any info on the back.

The entry info for this year's BYO label contest is in the current issue. There are some pretty impressive designs from previous years in there.

jcc - the black IPA is ready to drink. I've had a few already (not this morning).

Keep this up and you'll have beer on tap at the Morrisey house.....and I'd come to buy it too!!
