Borderline,
I agree with everything in your post.
I don't think we can change the attitude of the entire country in regards to what they drink overnight, so the model I presented is unfortunately only a nice theory at this point in this province. I am not advocating the Old Credit beers by any stretch of the imagination, since I have never tried happened upon one of their products.
As far as the conversation goes, I was refering to the thread that went on forever sometime around August, and I was under the mistaken impression that the old argument of Imports vs locals was underlying in your post. (sorry).

And taking this thread even further off topic, yes, it is a fairly sound bit of reasoning that *if* overnight all Canadians had more of an interest in drinking good beer, then the market for good micro-brewed beer would be a lot healthier. Though we seem to be agreed that neither of us will be holding our breath awaiting this development...
I am actually pretty happy to drink imported beer as well BTW, but I think that when we have good beer being produced in this province and neighbouring provinces, that it is preferable that the region's beers be available in pubs, restaurants, etc, as they can be sold on tap or even (gasp) cask-conditioned, which just seems the 'right thing' to me. Also, locally produced beer should be more fresh, which is a major consideration.
However, were I of the opinion that there was nothing being produced within Canada worth drinking and good imports were readily available, I would not lose too much sleep in primarily drinking imports, while trying new micro-beers as they became available. I would agree with you that I would not be doing very much to improve things, but there you go. Thankfully, we are not in this situation.
And although I bring up the place quite a bit, I think that cafe Volo has their beer range about right, given what is available within Ontario. They have an excellent selection of micros on tap coupled with a very good range of imports. Though not as extensive a selection as some other establishments, there it does feel like the ranges complement each other, which is not really the case elsewhere, where it seems to be either all imports or all local micros. I think that this is very impressive for such a recent addition to the good beer venues within Toronto and a model that other establishments would do well to consider when putting together their own ranges (which neatly brings this post almost back on topic, and certainly as close as it is ever likely to get).
