nice! how'd you like it on cask? hold up pretty well? i'd think the lower carb would generally mean less aromatic, but "less aromatic" in this case is still going to be pretty hoppy.
The cask serving was beautiful. I can't compare it to the keg version, but there was HELLA aroma in there. I'd love to try the tap version, so hopefully this gets made again (wink, wink). Felt super nerdy, but our conversation kept getting interrupted with each sip for one of us to make some sort of exclamation about the aroma or flavour. So good.

As much as I love the big beers, I'd certainly welcome more Ontario brewers starting to experiment with fully flavoured and aromatized sub 5% ABV session ales. Hoppy bitters, milds, XPAs, whatever. I know they're being done (House Ales, GLB, and to a lesser - or I guess,in a more traditional sense - Granite, Grand River), but that'd be cool if that was the next trend.

Keep reporting where it is! I could not drive so fast to Bryden's! People I knew there liked the high IBU and said the aroma was wicked.

IBU's aren't high on it at all - 43.5 by my calc, but I think Lackey's had it at more like 60 (different methods = different numbers). it's bittered with columbus which does make it come across as a slightly more harsh bitterness, but the IBU's ain't high. just enough to balance the 4.4% abv.

the aroma, on the other hand, was as intense as we could make it!

Just came back from the Black Oak event - pretty great - essentially, $85 got you a case of 10BY and all the special one offs you could drink!

I thought the $20 admission just got you in, you get to buy your 10BY, and you got a sample or two, but it was unlimited.

The Dubbel IPA collaboration for the CBAs (with Charlevoix and Sawdust City) was outstanding. I'm not the biggest Belgian IPA fan, but this mixed up style I could really get into. Hoppy. Banana-Belgiumy. Malty. Yummy!

Also - the Black Belgian IPA was great, but of particular note was the cask of Stitchback, the 1812 all Ontario cask. I thought it would just be a typical brown ale with local ingredients, but it was a whopping 9% Strong Ale that was fantastic.

Anyways, thanks to Ken for doing this and for getting 10BY back so that those of us who were out of luck last time could get some bottles. Great event!

correction: the samples were unlimited EXCEPT for the 10BY - they were limiting that to 12oz per guest. I didn't even get to the 10BY, as I was busy sampling the others. They were very generous with their pours though, and I had to ask the staff to kindly pour me smaller samples as I was driving afterwards :P

Also - I could be wrong, but I'd check with the brewery today - I think they still might have some 10BY left.

Also had fun at "Ken's Still Bitter". I think the 'What you Call a Monkey In Latin" might have been my favorite of the night, thought 6.5% (its that right? I thought that's what the board said) I'm not sure I'd call it a double IPA. Really interesting fruit character.

If anybody's looking for a beer and food pairing event, I've got to say that Fanny Chadwick's is a really excellent choice. I liked it so much I blogged a little.

Well, they had a two case limit last night so hopefully doesn't do an all out six case run again...

I made a rookie mistake today. Left the airport drove down to the brewery got out of my truck all excited. Forgot my wallet... I only had $35 cash on me. Grabbed six and six of the summer saison. I've got to go back tomorrow to pick up a full case.

Just a quick word about the new bottles of 10BY - maybe it's just cause their so fresh, but they're pretty great - the best I've ever had, I think. Last night, the listed abv was 8.5, and talking with Ken, he was saying he keeps trying to make it better. It;s just drinking wonderfully right now.

Go get some!

Ken also said that he was going to try to do it more regularly, too.

Frankly, I think it was awesome of him to make another batch after that last run went so quickly.

So thanks, Ken, if you're reading this . This beer is great, you were great to make more of it so fast, and at 65 bucks a case, it's practically a gift!
