Pub Profile: THE MADISON

14 Madison Ave.

Directions: Madison Ave. runs north from Bloor St., in between Spadina Rd. and St. George St.

One of the most popular pubs in the Annex. An extremely large pub, occupying two houses on Madison Ave., just north of Bloor St. The Madison has many sections, including numerous patios and floors to choose from. The Madison is consistently voted as one of Toronto's favourite pubs in local surveys. A visitor to the Madison will have to contend with the many students and Annex dwellers that flock to the pub regularly. The Madison, however, is so busy on a warm summer Thursday or Friday that even thinking of finding seating after 9pm is pointless. That being said, The Madison offers good pub fare, and an average draught selection, with the usual premium suspects of Creemore, Amsterdam, Sam Adams, Guinness and Smithwicks complementing a handful of mass-market brews. A piece of trivia: the Madison Pub is the Creemore brewery's single-largest draught account for Creemore Springs Premium Lager.

Moderately recommended.
